So, you’ve booked the land rental for your next hunting trip through FoggyTrail. Congratulations! We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this experience with you. Before you get started, though, make sure that you’re taking all the necessary steps to prepare for your excursion. Have you taken care of all of these?
1) Establish Contact
FoggyTrail will put you in touch with the landowner as soon as a booking request is accepted, and we highly encourage you to take advantage of this. This will give you an opportunity to ask any and all pertinent questions before arriving. Even if you don’t have any specific questions, this can help keep everyone on the same page going into the trip.
2) Double, Triple, Quadruple Check Your Gear
There’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination only to realize that you’ve forgotten a critical piece of gear. After all, what good is a gun without ammunition or a tent without a rainfly? Take some time a week or so before your trip to do a brief gear inventory, and then double check once more before you get on the road. This can be tedious, but it’s well worth it.
First and foremost, ensure that you’ve acquired any necessary licenses and permits through the appropriate groups and organizations. Once you’ve established that, get in touch with the landowner or outfitter that you’re working with to reiterate that this is taken care of. It will put their mind at ease, and will also be a great opportunity to ask any remaining logistics questions, such as whether there are specific access points or forbidden areas on the property.
4) Check the Weather
This one more or less goes without saying, but it’s still extremely important to check the weather. Be prepared. Enough said.
5) Avoid Unneeded Disclosures or Outside Transactions
One of the great things about FoggyTrail is that the platform takes care of many of the transactional aspects of land rental for you. In keeping with this, be careful of any request to disclose personal information through the app. The landowner should have everything they need from FoggyTrail already. Similarly, never conduct a payment or transfer of funds outside of the app. Money transferred outside of the application can’t be tracked by FoggyTrail, and we assume no liability for outside transactions.
6) The Two F’s
Food and fun. Pack a few sandwiches if you like it simple, or a grand spread if you’re celebrating. Make sure that you have enough food for the duration of your trip and enough space to store it. Beyond that, have fun! After all, that’s why we’re here.
